 RTP grava “Mulheres de Abril” no Porto

A mini-série “Mulheres de Abril”, que terá cinco episódios, é uma das apostas da RTP para comemorar os 40 anos da revolução de 25 de abril de 1974. As gravações estão a decorrer no Porto, cidade onde decorre a ação da história.

“Houve o convite da RTP para fazer uma série sobre o 25 de abril e o objetivo era a história centrar-se na condição feminina”, revelou o realizador Henrique Oliveira, acrescentando que esta ideia foi o ponto de partida para se começar a desenvolver a trama que atravessa várias décadas, tendo início nos anos 20, até aos dias de hoje. “Como sou do Porto, para mim fazia todo o sentido a série ser gravada aqui. Conheço bem a cidade e tenho muitas memórias, porque tinha 18 anos quando aconteceu o 25 de abril. Por isso, aproveitei tudo isso para a escrita”, explicou Henrique Oliveira.

A equipa gravou ainda algumas cenas em Carrazeda de Ansiães, Trás-os-Montes, de onde é natural a matriarca da família: “Naquela altura havia a tradição de muitas famílias se mudarem para o Porto”. Um dos desafios de gravar uma série de época foi mesmo encontrar os cenários, especialmente para gravações de exteriores: “Quando chegamos a Carrazeda de Ansiães ficamos surpreendidos porque não esperávamos que aldeia estivesse tão diferente, por isso algumas cenas foram gravadas no Parque da Cidade, no Porto, onde existe a reconstituição de uma aldeia antiga portuguesa”. A maior parte dos cenários são interiores e a produção usou casas mais antigas da invicta para as gravações.

A história centra-se na personagem Ana (Mariana Monteiro), que comemora 60 anos no dia 25 de abril de 2014 e reúne para o aniversário várias mulheres que marcaram a sua vida e estas vão partilhar histórias e recordações: “A série vai acompanhar a vida de várias mulheres de uma família”. Henrique Oliveira diz que  escrever sobre mulheres “não foi tão difícil como pensava”. “Queríamos falar sobre os temas que dizem respeito às mulheres, como o aborto, o facto de não poderem votar… Eu escrevi a maior parte dos episódios, mas havia uma mulher na equipa que nos orientava e também contava com as memórias da minha mulher”, contou.

Do elenco da série fazem parte Mariana Monteiro, Sara Norte, Débora Monteiro, António Cordeiro, Diogo Carmona, Anabela Teixeira, Leonor Alcácer e Amélia Videira.

 

 RTP shoots “Mulheres de Abril” in Porto

The mini-series “Mulheres de Abril”, which will have 5 episodes, is one of the shows the Portuguese channel RTP will broadcast as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the end of the dictatorship in Portugal (commonly known as the 25th of April Revolution). It is filmed in Porto, where the story’s action takes place.

“We were invited by RTP to film a series about the 25^th of April and the aim was for the story to revolve around the feminine status,” revealed the director Henrique Oliveira, adding that this idea was the starting point for the development of the plot which stretches over several decades, from the early 1920’s until today. “Since I’m from Porto, to me it made a lot of sense that the series was filmed here. I know the city very well and I have a lot of memories, because I was 18 at the time of the 25th of April Revolution, so I used all of that in my writing”, explained Henrique Oliveira.

The team also shot a few scenes in Carrazeda de Ansiães, Trás-os-Montes, the region where the matriarch of the family is from: “During that time it was a cultural tradition for many families to move to Porto.” One of the challenges of filming a period drama was finding the locations, especially for the outdoor scenes: “When we arrived at Carrazeda de Ansiães we were surprised because we didn’t expect the village to be so different, so some of the scenes were filmed at Porto’s City Park, where a reconstitution of an old Portuguese village can be found”. Most of the sets are indoors and for the filming the production team used Porto houses that were very old but still in good condition.

The story revolves around Ana (Mariana Monteiro), who is celebrating her 60th birthday on the 25th April 2014 and invites several women who have been important throughout her life to celebrate with her so they can share memories and stories together: “The series will follow the lives of several different women from one family.” Henrique Oliveira says that writing about women “wasn’t as hard as he thought.” “We wanted to talk about issues that concern women, such as abortion and not having the right to vote… I wrote most of the episodes, but we had a woman on the team to help guide us and I could also rely on my wife’s memories,” he told us.

Mariana Monteiro, Sara Norte, Débora Monteiro, António Cordeiro, Diogo Carmona, Anabela Teixeira, Leonor Alcácer and Amélia Videira are part of the series’ main cast.
