25 de Abril numa curta em Cannes
É o primeiro filme de Margarida Rêgo e tem como mote a revolução de Abril de 1974.
A curta-metragem A Caça Revoluções, de Margarida Rêgo, foi selecionada para a Quinzena dos Realizadores, que decorrerá em Maio, em paralelo ao Festival de Cinema de Cannes, em França, foi anunciado nesta terça-feira.
A Caça Revoluções, animação experimental sobre fotografia, é o primeiro filme de Margarida Rêgo e tem como mote a revolução de Abril de 1974, a partir de uma fotografia tirada na época.
Sobre esta foto da época revolucionária, a realizadora “anima” marcas do tempo, inventando um diálogo entre uma memória rica mas cansada, que desistiu já das revoluções, e uma memória ávida de alimento, que quer “caçar revoluções”. É um filme – trabalho de mestrado em Design de Comunicação na Royall School of Arts, de Londres – que questiona a paralizia que pode provocar a nostalgia – aquela que, por exemplo, a sua geração sente pelo 25 de Abril que não viveu, aquela que a realizadora sentiu quando testemunhou as manifestações no Verão português de 2012.
A autora “tenta entrar nessa fotografia à procura de um país, como quem quer entrar dentro de um tempo em que não viveu e perceber o que significa fazer parte de uma revolução ou o que significa lutar por um país”, lê-se na sinopse. A curta inclui sons de manifestações e uma descrição dos acontecimentos pelo jornalista Adelino Gomes, há 40 anos.
O filme é dedicado “a todas as pessoas que acreditam que um país diferente é possível”, lê-se no final de A Caça Revoluções.
Antes de ser exibido em Maio na Quinzena de Realizadores, o filme integrará a competição de curtas-metragens do festival IndieLisboa, que começa na quinta-feira.
A Quinzena dos Realizadores, que decorrerá de 15 a 25 de Maio, foi criada pela Sociedade dos Realizadores de Cinema pouco depois do Maio de 1968, com o objetivo “de descobrir filmes de jovens autores e de reconhecer a obra de realizadores conhecidos”.
Além de A Caça Revoluções, a secção de curtas-metragens da Quinzena de Realizadores contará com o filme brasileiro Sem Coração, de Tião e Nara Normande.
A secção de longas-metragens contará com filmes de Fredrick Wiseman, Bruno Dumont, Tobe Hooper ou John Boorman.
A organização da Quinzena de Realizadores irá atribuir o prémio Le Carrosse D’Or, a título póstumo, ao realizador Alain Resnais, falecido em Março.
Short about the 25th of April Portuguese Revolution at Cannes
It’s Margarida Rêgo’s first film and its subject is April 1974’s Portuguese revolution
It was announced this Tuesday that the short film “A Caça Revoluções” (in English, The Revolution Hunter), by Margarida Rêgo, was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight, which will be held in May, in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival, in France.
Margarida Rêgo’s first film, “A Caça Revoluções”is an experimental animation about photography and has the Portuguese revolution of April 1974 as theme from a picture taken during the time.
About this picture of the revolutionary period, the producer “brightens up” time stamps, coming up with a dialogue between a rich but tired memory, which already gave up on the revolutions, and a memory greedy for food that wants to “hunt revolutions”. It’s a film – a project for a Masters Degree in Communication Design at the Royall School of Arts of London – that questions the paralysis that nostalgia can cause – for example, like the one her generation feels about the 25th of April they haven’t lived, or the one the producer felt when she witnessed the Portuguese summer manifestations of 2012.
As it’s written in the synopsis, the author “tries to enter this picture searching for a country, like someone that wants to enter a time in which they haven’t lived and understand what it means to be part of a revolution or what it means to fight for a country. The short film includes sounds of the manifestation and a description of the events by journalist Adelino Gomes, from 40 years ago.
This film is dedicated “to all the people that believed that a different country is possible”. Before being screened in May at the Directors’ Fortnight, the film will be part of the short-film competition at the IndieLisboa Festival, which will begin on Thursday.
The Directors’ Fortnight, which will be held from the 15th to the 25th of May, was created by the French Directors Guild shortly after May of 1968 with “discovering young author’s films and acknowledging the works of known producers” as goal.
Besides “A Caça Revoluções”, the short film section of the Directors’ Fortnight will also count with the Brazilian film “Sem Coração”, by Tião and Nara Normande.
The feature film section will count with Fredrick Wiseman, Bruno Dumont, Tobe Hooper and John Boorman’s films.
The Directors’ Fortnight organization will award Le Carrosse D’or (Golden Coach), posthumous, to the produce Alain Resnais, who passed away in March.
